1st Model (1934/35) Airforce Dagger (Luftwaffe Fliegerdolch) by SMF (Solinger Metallwarenfabrik Stoeker & Co.) of Solingen. The plated blade on this one sports the etched “SMF Solingen” maker mark below a Luftwaffe inspection mark. The plating on this gives it a mirror like finish. The fit remains nice and tight and the tip comes to a nice point! The blade rates an Exc+. The original blue pebbled leather buffer pad continues to remain intact. The steel based blue pebbled, leather scabbard body looks amazing. It shows minimal wear in the areas it would have rubbed in period use. 100%+ of the leather coverage remains intact. The silvered nickel scalloped scabbard fittings remain in nice condition. The fittings are tightly secured with all five original screws! The nickel chain has 13 lower and 9 upper ringlets that ends at a well working nickel clip. Original Portepee and leather belt hanger. The hilt looks excellent! The four brass gilded sun wheel swastikas are just beautiful and best of all the backgrounds retain their silver backgrounds. They are not all polished down to the base brass. So many times these are polished right out! This shows no evidence of cleaning and has patinaed dark. The grip leather matches the scabbard quite nicely and shows some scuffs. It shows period age toning. The three wire wrap remains tightly intact. A nice early and nickel piece.
