This 2nd Model Luftwaffe is a high quality example produced quite early on by the Weyersberg firm. The pommel and cross guard are fine matching aluminum color with darkening in the recesses. There is excellent hand-enhancing to the edges of the leaves where they meet the center ridge of the pommel. The cross guard is a fine example with its eagle in flight clutching a swastika in its talons. The detail throughout the eagle is outstanding. The reverse panel has good pebbling. The upper crossguard arms have the engraved oak leaves with acorns. The grip is a very beautiful light-color orange, and it remains in perfect condition. The grip is tightly wrapped with aluminum springy wire. The ferrule is the standard variety.
The scabbard is straight throughout, having an airplane gray finish. There is some mild age on the scabbard surfaces, but nothing serious. The bands are a white metal type having good oak leaves and acorns. The throat is retained with headless side screws, however, one of them is missing at the right side. Attached to the scabbard is a fine set of Luftwaffe Officer Hangers. These hangers have perfect brocade, showing little to no usage. They are the gray color with twin aluminum lines that run the length. The upper snap clip is the unmarked type with plain surfaces. The rectangular buckles and slides beneath, feature the raised oak leaf decoration. The snaps below are the “push-in” type, having pebbled surfaces.
The blade is an exceptional example being in mint condition and having a quality nickel-plated surface, with needle-like tip. The reverse ricasso is etched with the two oval circles which contain the firm’s name and location, “Paul Weyersberg @ Co. / Solingen”. Inside, is the downward pointing sword positioned between two wheat shafts. Stamped above the trademark is a Waffen-amt being a stick eagle with the number “5” in his belly. The original leather blade washer is within the recesses of the lower cross guard.
A fine dagger here!
